Dogora made the statement
on Thursday in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, after meeting with members of
some state caucuses in the National Assembly.
He
said he would focus on empowering the institution and the members of the lower
chamber.
“I
have said that we are going to run a united House. It will never be a case of
winner takes all and we have to demonstrate that leadership is not a zero sum
game,” he said.
“If
we shine, our colleagues will have the opportunity to shine and every one of us
who is a star will have the platform where he can really display the kind
of light that he has.
“The
only way we will maintain the integrity and the image of the institution is if
we empower each and every constituent member of the House to be able to offer
the kind of representation that he deems fit.”
While
giving the assurance that the lower chamber would not be divided, the Speaker
also urged the House of Representatives members to join hands in achieving
the goal.
