A teenager is fighting for her life after falling
onto a railway track after apparently suffering a seizure on the platform. Witnesses
said they saw the 18 year-old woman stood on the edge of the platform when she
seemed to have a seizure and stumbled forward and onto the tracks. The teen,
who has remained unnamed, narrowly escaped being hit by a passing commuter
train after her accident. She is currently in a life-threatening condition in King's College Hospital,
London. Passengers on a high-speed train, which had just arrived, were taken
off. Southeastern organized replacement buses. There were around 100 commuters
at sitting bourne railway station in Kent at 8am this morning when the incident
occurred. British Transport Police are treating the incident as
"non-suspicious".
A British Transport Police spokesman said: "Our officers
were called to sitting bourne rail station on Monday, 2 November, to reports of
a person on the tracks. "The call came into police shortly after
8am. "Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from Kent Police
and paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance service. "An 18-year-old
woman was taken to hospital.”She is currently in a critical condition. "Officers
are currently treating the incident as non-suspicious. "Anyone with any
information is asked to call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 quoting
reference 80 of 02/11/15."
The station was closed for an hour and a half
while an ambulance treated the girl. A Southeastern spokesman said: "Our
thoughts are very much with this young person and their family following this
morning’s emergency incident at Sitting bourne.”We can confirm sitting bourne
station was closed at 8.05am for an hour and a half and train services
suspended while emergency services attended."
