The top-paid athlete 25
and younger is winger Gareth Bale who will turn
26 next month, and banked $35 million from salary and endorsements (Bale ranks
No. 18 in the top 100). Real Madrid acquired the Welshman from Tottenham in
2013 for a whopping $118 million transfer fee. It ranks as the third most
expensive transfer in the sport. Talk is heating up that Bale could be on the
move back to the U.K. after a disappointing season for Real, who paid Bale
$25.5 million in salary this season. No matter where he goes he’s poised to
remain a standout fixture for sponsor Adidas, having inked a six-year contract
in 2014 worth an estimated $35 million. When not on the pitch, Bale will be in
front of the camera for BT Sport doing commentary as part of a three-year deal
he signed with the broadcaster.
