N.Y. Prison Break: Tailor Passed Hacksaw Blades In Meat, Source Says

Prison tailor Joyce Mitchell admits to putting hacksaw blades into frozen hamburger meat, according to a law enforcement official. Mitchell then asked Gene Palmer, a prison guard, to carry the meat into Clinton Correctional Facility and pass it to Richard Matt, the source said.
Palmer didn't run the meat through a metal detector, a violation of prison policy, according to the source. Palmer's attorney, Andrew Brockway, says his client was unaware there was something in the meat and that he was conned by Mitchell. Matt was one of two inmates at the upstate New York prison to escape.
Mitchell for several months routinely vouched for Matt and David Sweat, who escaped more than two weeks ago, according to the law enforcement source. She would bring baked goods to guards in exchange for favors for the two inmates, the source says. Mitchell went as far as to ask prison officials to move Sweat next to Matt's cell, according to the source.
