No fewer than four armed robbers on Friday stormed a commercial
bank in Okene, Kogi State, killing two policemen in the process of trying to
gain entry into the banking hall. According to an eyewitness, the gunmen
arrived at the bank around 8.55am and shot sporadically but were prevented from
gaining access into the hall by security operatives. Customers who had come to
make transactions and residents of the area scampered for safety while the gun
duel lasted. Public Relations Officer of the Kogi State Police Command, Mr.
Sola Adebayo confirmed the incidence. He said the Command had commenced investigation
into the matter with a view to apprehending the perpetrators.
